An annual dragon boat race is held at Jiang Village on Dragon Boat
Festival. Hundreds and thousands of people from far away are ass-
embled here at that time. They beat drums and strike gongs, wave f-
lags and shout battle cries, which is extraordinarily bustling. T-
he Deep Pool Mouth Dragon-Boat Race has a long history. It is said
that the race was begun in the Tang Dynasty, flourished in the So-
uthern Song Dynasty and was royally called ‘Spectacular Event of
Dragon Boat Race’ by Emperor Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty when he
visited the south of the Yangtze River. And there is a local folk
song saying that ‘dragon boat racing is good for health and a ki-
nd of celebration for harvest; watching dragon boat race thought to
be lucky, auspicious and blessed in peace’, from which we can see
the popularity of dragon-boat race. Jiang Village’ Dragon Boat Ra-
ce is in various forms, such as full-loaded, half-loaded, bareback-
ed, water-sprinkling and the like. Also, the dragon-boat can be ro-
wed in various ways, quite different from that of other parts in C-
hina. It dose not compete for speed but for performance, quite like
figure dragon boat, with strong local characteristics. |

Xixi Fire Persimmon Festival Time: September to October |

Xixi Fire Persimmon Festival is more and more outstanding every year.
In the last period of September this year, the park prepared 50,000
kilograms of persimmon to give out to lucky visitors by various for-
ms. Persimmon produced at Xixi has large fruit and thin skin, fine
fruit meat and abundant juice, which is very tasty. It is well known
as one of the famous persimmons in our country. Persimmon not only
has abundant nutrients, it also has high medical value. It can chase
away heat and foster Yin, and has curative effect on diseases such
as pyretic thirst, cough and aphthous stomatitis. When the visitors
find the scenery pleasing to the eye, the mind and the mouth, they
can also understand the sigh of “With yellow, orange and red pers-
immon and purple water nuts, one does not envy a marquise with a f-
ief of 10,000 families” by the ancient people. |
